World War 1 Model 1917 155mm French Schneider Howitzer

The 155mm Howitzer by Schneider, was the principal heavy howitzer piece of the French Army during the Great War. It started as a private enterprise, the design being made by Schneider to get a contract to equip the Russian Imperial Army with artillery. The gun itself proved to be an excellent piece, and when the War broke out in 1914 it was soon accepted by the French Army as well, who needed these types of modern, heavy howitzers - they had put too much faith in their cherished "75". The first model, the mle 1915, employed brass cartridges for the charge, which was seen as a drawback, and a new model, the mle 1917, eventually superseded the first.

This howitzer was in service with the Finish Defense Force and was demilitarized to their specifications when it was released. All documents are included with the sale and it can be exported without any problems. We have imported other cannons with these same documents into the United States and New Zealand.

It is complete with the original optical sights and cleaning rods and the World War Two high speed double wheels!

It is in GREAT condition, complete and just needs cleaning, preparation, and painting and it will be ready for display!

Notice: We now have a pair of original World War 1 wood wheels for this cannon that are also located in Finland, that we can offer as an "option" at no additional cost to the buyer of this gun! Modification to the axel will most likely be required.

 Both wheels need to have replaced about 50 cm of soft/rotten wood.
